There are a approximately only 4000 psychiatrist to 1.2 billion people in India. There is no word for depression in many Indian languages and there is hardly any literature on Mental illness available. Part of the problem could be that survival is a bigger problem but as people become wealthy and healthy, mental illness will come to be fore and get addressed.
